Bharat Mandir is one of the pristine temples of Lord Hrishkesh Narayan that is located in the middle of Rishikesh city in the state of Uttarakhand. It is believed to be one of the oldest shrines and very old temples in the city. It is said that a Hindu Sage Jagadguru Adi Shakaracharya re-mounted the idol of Lord Hrishikesh Narayan in the temple on the day of Basant Panchmi in the 789 AD. Lord Hrishikesh is the residing deity of this sacred shrine.
The legacy of the sage Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya continues and every year the symbolic reinstallation is done on the day of Basant Panchmi. During this period the Shaligram is taken to the nearby Mayakund for sacred bath and is followed by a grand procession that takes the idol back to the temple.
Bharat Temple is a renowned temple that finds its name in several Hindu scripts and epics like Vishnu Puran, Vaman Puran, Narsingh Puran, Mahabharat and Shrimadbhagwat Geeta. It is believed that if anyone completes 108 rounds around Lord Hrishikesh on the day of Akshay Tritiya and seek lord’s blessing by touching his feet then all the wishes made are fulfilled by the lord. The deed is equal to the Holy pilgrimage of Badinath Dham. Many people have faith in it and perform the act.
Bharat Mandir Rishikesh- History and Myths
As per the myths, it is believed that post Mahabharat, Pandavas on their way to heaven stayed at this place and worshipped Lord Hrishikesh Narayan. Many people believed that during his reign of Ashoka, Bharat Mandir and other temples in this region were transformed in to Budhha Monastries as Lord Buddha visited here. During excavation, statue found was believed to be Lord Budha’s idol and since then this place is famous as ideal place for regaining peace and stability.
Holy Trees in Bharat Mandir
Bharat Mandir is one of the piristine temples of Uttarakhand that comprises several significant trees as per the Hindu Mytholgy. These trees are namely Vat Vriksha, Pipal, Bali trees and many think that these trees are dedicated to Tridev- Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahesh. These trees are said to be more than 250 years old.

Bharat Mandir also comprises a museum that lures many historians and archaeologists to Bharat Mandir. The museum comprises numerous sculptures, pottery and decorated bricks during the excavation
