Situated at an elevation of 1,650 meters above sea level, Gairsain is small village in the Chamoli district
of Uttrakhand state and also known for as the most controversial village of this state because of its
closeness with Garhwal and Kumaon region. Gairsain is being considered as future summer capital of
Uttarakhand state.
There is belief that the name of Gairsain is taken from Garhwali language where Gair means a particular
town in the region and ‘sain’ refers to a plain area at the bottom of Gair village. Located in the center of
Uttarakhand, Gairsain works as main town for both Kumaon and Garhwal regions. The village Gairsain is
also raising as a lovely tourist place and it is also the main Gateway which connects Kumaon and
Garhwal region.
One can see many other interesting places situated nearby Gairsain which includes, Vriddha Badri, Adi
Badri, Yog Dhyan Badri, Vasundhara Waterfals, and Nanda Devi National Park.
