The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies or commonly referred as UPES is a well-known Asian University positioned in Dehradun in the state of Uttarakhand. In the year of 2003, the University was founded under an act of State Legislature of Uttarakhand and is supported by Hydrocarbons education and research society (a non-profit society registered under societies Act 1860 committed to sponsoring education and training in Energy and associated sectors). The University was started to impart higher education and research in the field of energy and power. UPES was established with a 25 acres campus in ponda valley at the city of Dehradun and a north center in New Delhi. The University offers domain specific courses in Oil and gas, computer science, international business, transportation, information technology, power, supply chain, and infrastructure.
UPES provides more than 75 undergraduate and post graduate courses to over 2400 students through its 3 different campuses. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is recognized as one of the first Indian University to offer PG, Ph.D and UG study courses in the core zone of petroleum and energy. This is the only university which has set up oil rig on campus and in- house Bio-diesel laboratory.
