Champawat district of Uttarakhand. Surrounded by snow clad Himalayas peaks, this place offers
calm, decent and serene environment, far away from Hustle-bustle and maddening crowd of the
cities.
Aside from its Himalayan surrounds, the place gives an assortment of walkways and tracks in the
midst of the pine and deodar woods, with the perspective of different sorts of colorful Himalayan
flying creatures and butterflies. It also offers striking views of Nepal and snow covered
Himalaya peaks from Gangotri cliff to Dhaulagiri mountain range. Abbott Mount is located 8 km
away from Lohaghat.
History of Abbott Mount
Same as the case of many other hill stations, Abbott Mount was an effort of an Englishman, John
Harold Abbott in the 20th century. He was a businessman and desired to create a hill station that
would be a retreat for the European society. In 1914 Mr. Abbott had built a bungalow, amongst
the deep green forests of Deodar and oak and later this Bungalow only that region was called
“Abbot Mount”.
Several sports and trekking activities are held near to this place in order to enhance the tourism
here. Travelers can visit the Old Church located in Abbott Mount. They can also go for angling
at Pancheswar or enjoy other activities like trekking, photography and playing cricket on second
