Amid several holiday spots in Uttarakhand, Govind Wildlife Sanctuary is the most interesting one. Located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand this Wildlife sanctuary was established in the year 1955 and sprawls over an area of 958 sq km, encompassing some important mountains like Swarg Rohini, Bandarppunch and Black Peak. The sanctuary is naturally raised at an elevation of 1400mts to 6323mts and comprises several plants as in Chirpine, Oak species and Scrub tropical euphoria.

In order to conserve and protect the endangering “Snow Leopard”, the Government of India in its Eight Five Year Plan has set up the “Snow Leopard Project”. Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, in1990 was chosen as the execution site by the government officials and around 472 sq kms in the sanctuary area was reserved as the Snow leopard’s habitat. This was later notified as Govind National Park. The entire area of Govind National Park is booked for Ayurvedic herbs and is used by many Ayurvedic practitioners for making various medicines.

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary has so much to offer apart from the natural habitats of different fauna species. Govind wildlife sanctuary is a famous tourist’s destination because of its snow covered mountains and peaks. It offers wonderful trekking experience to Har-ki-Dun valley which is the famous trek here.

Har-ki-dun- is also unveils some best sightseeing options. The Har-ki-dun forest rest house is widely known for its valley of wild flowers. The rest houses of Talika, Naitwar and Osla are noteworthy destinations and truly deserve a look.

Govind Wildlife Sanctuary is a home to wide variety of animals as in serow, monal, brown bears, black bears, chir, musk deer,bharal, the gold eagle, snow leopard, chukor, trogopan, koklas, kaleej pheasants, the bearded vulture, Himalayan snow cock and many others.

To explore the high altitudes, Ruinsara catchments is an important area. It comprises Black peak, Banderpunch, Har-ki-dun, Ruinsaratal, Kedarkantha, Deokvara and Bhratsar.

Entry Fees to Govind Wildlife Sanctuary
There is a minimal amount charged as an entry fee and some additional charges are levied if video cameras or digital cameras are carried inside. More details can be availed from park officials.
