How to Reach Hemkunt Sahib

Hemkund Sahib is located at the banks of river Alakhnanda at a raised height = of 1,828mts
above sea level. It is the starting point of the trek to reach Hemkund Sahib and is robustly
connected by the motorable roads. The trekking path from Govindghat to Ghangaria is a step
way of approximately 13kms. Total distance is 19kms wherein remaining 6kms is the steepest
way and the toughest to travel.
Trekking to Hemkund Sahib
The trek to Hemkund Sahib commences at Govindghat after crossing the Alakhnanda River via
hanging bridge which is the only source to reach the other side. The haywire track gets straight
via an ascending valley of vegetation and fields. From here, at a distance of 3kms is a small and
attractive place, Pulna. The distance of this trek further becomes more interesting as Laxman
Ganga becomes swifter between the green and Rocky Mountains where you get to see
enchanting snow capped peaks and naturally rich nature.
The trek from Pulna and Bhvundar village offers wonderful sights to lush settings of Mother
Nature with cascading waterfalls and cold water springs to add to the splendor. Nature has
blessed this place with shrubs, wild roses and thick trees at the touch of which one feels
glorified within. The place has small tea stalls at the side of the entire route where you can stop
by for a tea and relax.
Hereafter, trek to right side of the Laxman Ganga continues via rich vegetation till you reach a
bridge that is supported by the boulders. From here cross to the left side of the river where the
trek is steeper and harder to cross which will lead you to Ghangaria that is the base camp of the
Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. From this point, your ultimate destination is only 6kms
but the trek is difficult and takes more time.
By Air
Jolly grant airport is the nearest airport to Hemkund Sahib. But roads are connected only to
Govindghat from where a trek of 19kms commences to reach Hemkund Sahib. Govindghat is at
a distance of 292kms from Jolly Grant airport. There are regular flights to Jolly Grant Airport.
Travelers can book taxis to Govindghat from Airport.
By Rail
Rishikesh is the closest railway station to Hemkund Sahib. The distance from Rishikesh to
Hemkund Sahib is 273kms. Once getting off at the station tourists can take bus or taxi. Frequent
taxi and buses are available from Rishikesh, Srinagar, Chamoli, Joshimath and Rudraprayag to
Govindghat and other significant locations.
By Road
Upto Govindghat there is motorable roads. After Govindghat, you have to begin a trek of 19kms
in order to arrive at Hemkund Sahib. Govindghat is strongly connected to important locations of
the Uttarakhand state and frequent buses connected to Haridwar Rishikesh and Srinagar is
obtainable from ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
