There are numerous rituals and rites practiced in Uttarakhand. One of the rituals performed is “Tantra” that is prominent in the hills of Uttarakhnad. “Tantra”, is actually a system that comprises hypnosis, meditation, auto- suggestion, yoga, Asanas, exercise, self-control and accomplishment of the worldly desires and realization of spiritual knowledge. The knowledge of “Tantra” is achieved by few known Brahmins and Schedule Caste families of the state.
The knowledge of Tantra passed from one generation to another and was one of the important occupations of the families that resided in the hills. Earlier, Tantra was performed for the liberation of evil power and for the well-being of the individuals in the state. Overtime, the knowledge of Tantra has travelled from hills to the people at the bottom of the hills. This knowledge is considered as powerful way to liberate the needy from all problems and grieves.
