Hemkund Sahib is popular holy destination and is situated at an altitude of 4,329 meters above sea level surrounded by various snow covered peaks, which is combined called Hemkund Parvat. It is believed that Guru Gobind Singh Ji the tenth Guru of Sikhs meditated at Hemkund Sahib for long time. The name Hemkund means Lake of snow and the holy water of this as cold as snow.
A star shaped Gurudwara close to the lake is visited by numerous devotees and travelers every month. This place is also having a temple devoted to Lakshman, brother of God Ram. People can reach there by completing a trek of 19km commencing from Govindghat through Ghangaria. The perfect time to visit this place is b/w June to September month.
Located at the distance of 13 kms from Govindghat, Ghangaria is the end human territory hub on the way to this National Park and Hemkund Sahib. It is picturesque small town situated at an elevation of 3046 meters above sea level. This place is just 4 km away from the Valley of Flowers. The area remains completely enclosed with thick sheets of snow during winters and with flourishing flowers from June – October months. A Gurudwara, GMVN resorts and some hotels offers accommodation facility at Ghangharia.
